THE DETAIL - CPR
On SmartMan you can practice both 1 person and 2 person CPR. The colors and what they mean are the same as indicated above for chest compression (see here) and ventilations (see here).
When you perform CPR on SmartMan, the screen will show both the bars for the chest compression and the bars for the ventilations at the same time.
A CPR SAMPLE
In the example below we can see that almost all compression were accurate. The first one was too slow (red) and one compression was a little bit shallow but it was very close to 1.5 inches.
On the ventilations, the long horizontal green bar indicates that the ventilation started at the correct time. With 30 compressions performed at 0.6 of a second each, this ventilation should start at 18 seconds from the start of the first compression. For both of the ventilations the rate of inspiration was too fast. That is, they each took less than 1 second. As a result, the pressure of the inspiration has a great potential to be pushed into the stomach. Besides causing gastric inflation this reduces the volume of air that goes into the lungs.
The aim is to have all the vertical bars bright green (correct volume and rate of inspiration) and all the horizontal bars also bright green (correct duration between breaths). ![]()
