STUDENT NUMBER DOES NOT GO INTO SMARTMAN
When you register, SmartMan will issue back a student number. This student number will appear in a web browser and it should appear automatically in the correct box in SmartMan. However, for this to work correctly, you must allow your security programs to write information into the space.

BROWSER SECURITY SETTING
Normally computers have one or a combination of the following to stop anything being written onto your machine: security within the browser; ant virus programs; firewalls. Many machines will have IE (Internet Explorer) set as their default browser. To correct the settings to allow the SmartMan student number to be written back, try the following. Go to the tools menu.:
Tools --> Internet Options
--> Click on the Advanced Tab
Scroll down almost to the bottom to the section called Security
Click to put a check in the second box:
                             * Allow active content to run files on My Computer

On most machines this will work. If it does not work you can try checking all of the top 4 boxes.

BROWSER EXCEPTIONS LIST

Browsers allow you to set specific sites which you trust. There is usually an area for you to list safe sites, exceptions to sites you are blocking or trusted sites. In that area, you should list the following sites:
SAFE SITES: >> www.firstaidforall.com
                        >> www.launchpadmultimedia.com
                        >> www.v4ems.com
SAFE APPLICATION
                       >>SmartMan.exe

ANTIVIRUS EXCEPTIONS LIST
Anti virus programs allow you to set specific sites which you trust. There is usually an area for you to list exceptions or trusted sites. In that area, you should list the sites listed above.

FIREWALL SAFE APPLICATION AND EXCEPTIONS LIST
Your firewall is the last place to look. In the majority of cases the issue is with browser security. However, if the above has not completely solved the issue you can try finding the area in your firewall where you list SAFE APPLICATIONS. In that area enter: SmartMan.exe.

There may also be an area in your firewall program where you can list safe sites. If so, list the sites listed in the previous suggestions.  For more details onhow to change your firewall settings go here.

  Solve issues related to calibrating

When you calibrate you need to watch the movement of the bar on the popup. When calibrating, you are setting the accuracy of the device. When calibrating depths and volumes SmartMan does not record how fast or slow you perform. It will ONLY record the maximum you produce.

When you are calibrating the volume of the ventilations, because of the sensitivity of the device, it is possible to get the two scores within the allowed tolerance but when SmartMan computes the performance with expected (acceptable) ranges, it finds that you are too far out of the expected range. It will ask you to re calibrate.

Suggestions To Get Calibration Correct: Pick a spot on the back panel and try to get the bar to the same spot each time. Next come back to SmartMan, either when you start the program or if you press "Login Next User", select your name from the list. When you enter the first letter or number for your login in the computer will display those logins that start with that letter or number.

Accuracy of the value:
To set the value you must produce the same value (or very nearly so) 3 times in a row. If you make a mistake, simply go through the three attempts. Then click continue and try again.

Maximum value: Pick a spot on the back panel which is as close to the correct value as possible. Try to get the bar to the same spot each time. Take your time. Speed does not count here.

Minimum value:Pick a spot on the back panel which is as close to the correct value as possible. Try to get the bar to the same spot each time. Take your time. Speed does not count here.

Total is not correct: SmartMan will analyze not only the individual attempts you produce, but also it will calculate the difference between the maximum and minimum values which you produce. It is possible for you to get each of these values correct but for the ratio between them to be incorrect. If this happens, SmartMan will display the expected ratio and ask you to do them again. Repeat the procedure.

Cannot click on the Skills Menu

You must be logged in and you must be REGISTERED. or the SKILLS MENU is not available. Once a valid student number has been produced from the registration, the options that are available will appear in a lighter white.

To fix this, either register the current user or log in as a user who has already registered.

  Cannot submit results

When you complete a test, SmartMan by default will try to send the results to the server. If the internet connection is slow or if there is a problem, the test results may not get through. SmartMan will allow you to view the results regardless of whether the results get submitted to there server or not.

To solve this issue, make sure that your internet connect is active. If everything is active, then try the solutions listed under "Solve Difficulties Registering" above. This will be an issue with browser security, anti virus or firewall.

Not sure if results are submitted

When you complete a test, SmartMan will default to trying to send the results to the server. If you are not sure if this has happened successfully or not, you can resubmit the results. To do this:

  • Login as the person whose data submission you want to check..
  • From the Main Menu, click on “View Previous Results”
  • Select Compressions, Ventilations or CPR
  • Choose the test results. Click 'Continue'.
  • You now have the option to 'Submit Results'.

Click on this button. If the results are already in the database, you will see the message “SmartMan already has a copy of these results for this student number and have not been submitted”.    If the results are not there it will put them there.
